Coronavirus Outbreak To Affect IPL 2020? Sourav Ganguly Confirms IPL Is ‘On’, Will Take All Precautions
Many sporting events across the world have been canceled due to the growing coronavirus threat. However, the Indian Premier League remains unaffected and will continue despite the concerns and this has been confirmed by the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly
The Coronavirus outbreak continues to spread globally, and has now also reached India. As of Thursday, about 30 people tested positive in India. Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19), which first originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has claimed the lives of more than 3200 people in China, and has infected many globally. In the wake of the outbreak, the Ministry of Health has also advised people against mass gatherings. With many sporting events across the world being cancelled gut=e to the coronavirus threat, there had also been some concerns about the upcoming IPL 2020.
However, the Indian Premier League remains unaffected and will continue despite the concerns. IPL happens to be the most-watched sporting event in India, and huge crowds gather in the stadiums to watch the matches live, screaming and cheering for their favorite teams. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was asked how the board is dealing with the coronavirus threat, and he told ESPN cricinfo, “It's on...and BCCI will take all protection (against coronavirus).” The report also further states a senior BCCI official confirming that the board would replicate the precautionary guidelines recommended by the government and send them forward to all those involved in the tournament.
Apart from this, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel told Reuters “We are keeping a tab on the situation. Before the IPL we have the South Africa series. Everything is on the schedule currently on Thursday.”
The Indian Premier League2020 is scheduled to begin on March 29, and in the IPL 2020 opener, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face Mumbai Indians.
